Swarm finds tidal magnetic signals

Believe it or not, saltwater on Earth can create a magnetic signal that can be detected from space. Saltwater, or water in the ocean, already has the property of conducting electricity. The movement of large volumes of water from the ebb and flow of the tides intersects the Earth's magnetic field lines, inducing an electric current.
